The Ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes is located in the Jardin des Plantes in Paris. It is a zoo that is part of the organization of the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle. The Ménagerie was opened in 1794, making it the oldest in the world after Tiergarten Schönbrunn, which is located in Vienna. Many buildings that are still in use today date from the nineteenth century. The Ménagerie nowadays focuses on smaller mammal species, birds and reptiles.
