Paris is the capital and largest city of France. The city is located in the north of the country on the river Seine and has the reputation to be influential in the fields of culture, art, fashion, food and design. A large part of Paris has gotten the status of UNESCO World Heritage Site, including the banks of the Seine. It is a popular destinations for tourists, with many well-known landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower, the Notre-Dame, the Arc de Triomphe, the Moulin Rouge, the Basilique du Sacré Cœur and the Louvre Museum.

In the past, many artists moved to Paris to educate themselves and to seek inspiration from its vast pool of artistic resources and galleries. As a result, the city has acquired a reputation as the ‘City of Art’. In the 19th century and early 20th century, Paris was in its artistic prime when it had a colony of artists in the city with famous painters such as Manet, Monet, Morisot, Gauguin and Renoir.
