The Rembrandt House Museum is housed in the former house of the Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn. This famous painter lived and worked in this house for nearly twenty years. The interior is restored to the style of the times in which Rembrandt lived. The museum displays paintings by artists who worked in Amsterdam before Rembrandt settled there in 1631. The collection includes works by Pieter Lastman, Rembrandt’s tutor. The museum has 260 sketches of the approximately 290 sketches Rembrandt made. A selection is included in the permanent exhibition.

Rembrandt House Museum has 6 ratings.
The Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam offers visitors a glimpse into the life and work of the famous Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn. Located in the heart of Amsterdam, this museum is set in the actual house where Rembrandt lived and worked for a significant part of his career.
The museum provides an authentic experience, with rooms restored to their 17th-century appearance. Visitors can explore Rembrandt's studio, living quarters, and the room where he displayed his extensive collection of artifacts and curiosities. The museum does an excellent job of recreating the atmosphere of the artist's time, giving context to his life and work.
One of the highlights is the demonstration of Rembrandt's etching techniques, which many visitors find informative and engaging. The museum also houses a collection of Rembrandt's etchings and paintings, although it's worth noting that most of his major works are housed in larger museums.
While the museum offers audio guides in multiple languages, some visitors have mentioned that more detailed information panels throughout the exhibits would enhance the experience. The museum can get crowded, especially during peak tourist seasons, which might affect the overall visit quality for some.
The gift shop offers a good selection of Rembrandt-related items, though some visitors find the prices a bit high. The museum's location in the historic Jewish Quarter adds value to the visit, as it allows for exploration of the surrounding area.
Overall, the Rembrandt House Museum provides a valuable and insightful experience for those interested in Rembrandt's life and Dutch Golden Age art. However, visitors should be prepared for potential crowds and consider the relatively compact size of the museum when planning their visit.
This museum is located in the house where rembrandt used to live. Gives you a good idea about his life and the context in which he created his art. Doesn't show any art of him.

The Rembrandthuis is Rembrandt's house as it was when he lived there. If you're interested in an artist's house, then this is a great museum. It was very interesting to be able to walk in the house where a big painter as Rembrandt lived.

The museum was a little bit disappointing for me. The museum does not have a lot of Rembrandt’s works and the building itsel is a bit of a modern redevelopment. It is ‘ok’ to visit, but I’d recommend the Rijksmuseum more than this place, as that museum features Rembrandt’s most important work.
